Netflix has green light an order for new comedy series starring Oscar winner Jamie Foxx called Dad Stop Embarrassing Me, as reported by Deadline. The multi-camera series will be a father-daughter comedy inspired by Foxx’s own relationship with his daughter, Corinne Foxx.
Also joining the series are stars Porscha Coleman (Silicon Valley, Ballers), Jonathan Kite (Black Dynamite: The Animated Series, 2 Broke Girls), with Heather Hemmens (Roswell: New Mexico, If Loving You Is Wrong) and Valente Rodriguez (Happily Divorced, The George Lopez Show).
Dad Stop Embarrassing Me first began casting and production back in February just before the COVID-19 pandemic halted progress on the show. The series hit by another unexpected turn recently after the original showrunner Jim Patterson (Two and a Half Men, The Ranch) stepped down just before Netflix had placed an order on the show. But following this incident, Bentley Kyle Evans (Martin), who was co-creator/exec producer alongside Foxx on The Jamie Foxx Show, stepped in to act as showrunner/executive producer for the new sitcom. Foxx will also executive produce the series, with Corinne and Alex Avant (The Perfect Match) serving as producers. Ken Whittingham (Modern Family, Black-ish) will direct all the episodes.
This marks Foxx’s return to multicam television comedies, after first getting his start playing the recurring role of Crazy George in the television sitcom Roc, and then shortly after playing as Wayne Wanda for the sketch comedy series In Living Color. He later went on to pursue film acting, eventually winning an Academy Award for best actor for playing as Ray Charles in the biopic Ray, and receiving acclaim for his recent portrayal of a wrongly accused man in Warner Bros’ legal drama Just Mercy.
Foxx and Corinne currently appear together on the competition series Beat Shazam featured on Fox, which Foxx hosts and his daughter DJs.
