Fans got an early glimpse of the final Stranger Things season five trailer when Netflix mistakenly posted the trailer to X this morning. The trailer was intended to be released the following day. Some fans reportedly had a chance to download the trailer before the mistake could be rectified.

Netflix would later officially drop the trailer a day early. See the trailer below.

The trailer promises an action-packed conclusion to the supernatural mystery series. Vecna, the series’s primary antagonist, is menacingly teased at the beginning before the main cast promises to end things once and for all. At the end of the trailer, we see Vecna telepathically move Noah Schnapp’s (Abe, Bridge Of Spies) Will Byers towards him while a voice-over proclaims that Byers will “help him one last time.”

Stranger Things is an immensely popular series that was released in 2016 and is considered one of the progenitors of Netflix’s original content machine. The fifth and final season is a highly anticipated send-off for the much-loved series. According to mxdwn, there were initial concerns from actor Finn Wolfhard (It, Ghostbusters: Afterlife) that the series would get the “Game Of Thrones” treatment, in reference to the critical and commercial failure of the final season of Game Of Thrones. Wolfward stated that those fears abated after reading the script.

Hopes for the fifth season are high. According to mxdwn, the budget for the series is among the most expensive Netflix productions ever. Series creators The Duffer Brothers (Hidden, Wayward Pines)  have promised season five is the “biggest season we’ve ever had, in terms of action, in terms of visual effects, in terms of story.”

Via mxdwn, the description for this season is as follows: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.

Mxdwn has reported that the final season will consist of eight episodes, released in three separate installments. Volume One will be released on November 26th, followed by Volume Two on December 25th, and concluding with Volume 3 on December 31st.
