Netflix Is Casting Norse Gods for Season Two of ‘The Sandman’

The first season of The Sandman debuted on Netflix in August of 2022. The series was created by Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Coraline), David S. Goyer (Blade, Foundation), and Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, The Catch). According to Comicbook.com, season two of The Sandman will include Norse mythology Gods, such as Loki, Thor, and Odin.

The first season of The Sandman revolves around the Sandman, played by Tom Sturridge (Like Minds, The Boat That Rocked), who is in control of all dreams and nightmares. Also referred to as Dream, the Sandman gets captured in 1916 and is held in captivity for 106 years. The series follows his journey during and after his entrapment as he tries to preserve order in the world of dreams.

Other stars of the show include Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Wednesday) as Lucifer, Jenna Coleman (Victoria, The Serpent) as Johanna, Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan) as The Corinthian, and more.

As Comicbook.com notes, the Norse Gods played a role in The Sandman comics created by Gaiman. In the comics, Loki plays the most prominent role in the comics as he is often in conflict with Dream. As for Thor and Odin, the comics depict Thor as a short-tempered and muscular God while Odin is one-eyed and more diminutive.

According to Comicbook.com, Gaiman shared some news about the second season. He stated, “It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing even more of The Sandman stories to life. There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: they are the biggest Sandman fans there are.”

The release date of The Sandman as well as the number of episodes has not been revealed yet, but fans can look forward to future cast announcements and meeting the Norse Gods in season two.
