Netflix has officially renewed Bet, its live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga Kakegurui, for a second season, Deadline reports. The announcement follows the show’s three-week run in Netflix’s global Top 10 for English-language series.
Deadline states the psychological drama takes place at St. Dominic’s, a boarding school for the global elite, where underground gambling determines social power. The second season will include ten 30-minute episodes.
“I’m extremely happy for our amazing Bet fans from all over the world,” said showrunner and director Simon Barry (Continuum, Ghost Wars) via Deadline. “And for this incredible cast and crew to return to St. Dominic’s for more gambling and general madness.”
According to Deadline, Miku Martineau (Kate, Let It Snow) stars as Yumeko, a transfer student whose bold gambling tactics and secret mission for revenge place her in direct conflict with the school’s ruthless Student Council. Her arrival shakes the foundation of the school’s long-standing power dynamics. The ensemble cast includes Ayo Solanke (The Lazarus Project, Doctors), Eve Edwards (Ginny & Georgia, In the Dark), Clara Alexandrova (The Hardy Boys, Run the Burbs), and Hunter Cardinal (Tribal, Fargo).
Anwen O’Driscoll (Burden of Truth, October Faction), Aviva Mongillo (Workin’ Moms, Backstage), Laura Afelskie (The Hardy Boys, The Wedding Planners), Dorian Giordano (The Expanse, The Boys), Emma Elle Paterson (Murdoch Mysteries, Departure), Ryan Sutherland (Paranormal Revenge, Odd Squad), and Peter Outerbridge (V-Wars, The Umbrella Academy) will also be returning.
Behind the scenes, Deadline reports the series is executive produced by Barry, Jeff F. King (The Umbrella Academy, Blindspot), David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg (Orphan Black, Being Erica), Jon Rutherford (Beacon 23, Killjoys), and Nick Nantell (Invasion, Beacon 23). The production company is Boat Rocker.
According to Deadline, the production team intends to build on the momentum of the first season, which resonated with viewers for its mix of high school drama, psychological tension, and slick visual style.
