Having acted in acclaimed films of all kinds, ranging from large productions like The Great Gatsby and Far From the Madding Crowd to intimate indie films like Inside Llewyn Davis and Shame, it’s fair to say Carey Mulligan has made her mark on the film industry. Now, the British actress will be making her move into television with the Netflix series Collateral.
Slash Film reported this week that Netflix has released its first trailer for the British crime drama, which centers on the mystery surrounding the murder of a London deliveryman. The tense series takes place over four days, during which detectives must figure out if it was a random killing or a racially motivated attack.
Mulligan plays the lead detective on the case, D.I. Kip Glaspie and is accompanied by equally impressive talent. Billie Piper, John Simm, Ben Miles, and Nicola Walker all round out the cast.
Collateral was initially shown on British televisions on BBC Two, and Netflix grabbed up the rights to stream it abroad to American audiences. This is becoming a popular move, with HBO having bought the rights to Kit Harington’s BBC drama Gunpowder last year in order to show it to US audiences across the Atlantic.
The series is not Mulligan’s first project with Netflix. The British actress also stars in Dee Rees’ Oscar-nominated film Mudbound, which is in fact a Netflix original.
All episodes of Collateral premiere on Netflix on March 9.
