The Witcher universe is beginning to expand at Netflix. The streamer dropped the teaser trailer for the upcoming prequel series, titled The Witcher: Blood Origin. The series is set for a 2022 release.
The new teaser gives fans an early glimpse at what’s to come for the spin-off. The teaser centers around three characters: Fijal (played by Laurence O’Faurian), a member of a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King; Scían (played by Michelle Yeoh), the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword-elves; and Éile (played by Sophia Brown), a warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess. “Every story has a beginning,” the trailer teases as the show promises to tell the “untold story” of the Continent.
Set 1200 years before the events of the flagship series, Blood Origin tells the story of the events leading up to the creation of the prototype Witcher, as well as the events that led to the conjunction of the spheres, a pivotal event where the worlds of monsters, elves, and man become one.
The cast of Blood Origin was announced back in August with Lenny Henry (Lord of the Rings), Mirren Mack (The Nest), Nathaniel Curtis (It’s a Sin), and Dylan Moran (Black Books), among many joining the three leads.
The second season of the original series dropped on December 17 and landed a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
