Netflix Cancels Rob Lowe Series ‘Unstable’ After Two Seasons

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has canceled Unstable after two seasons. The series, which stars and is co-created by Rob Lowe (The Simpson, Dog Gone) and his son John Owen Lowe (Grace Point, The Grinder), premiered its second season on the streamer on August 1. Unfortunately, the new season for the series didn’t make it to the streamer’s internal top 10 rankings in the weeks following its release. The series also did not show up for Nielsen’s August streaming rankings, meaning it drew fewer than 1.4M views in its opening weekend and fewer than 1.3M in its first full week.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series stars elder Lowe as the extremely eccentric head of biotechnology company along with his son, who joins the firm to help both the business and his dad from spiraling out of control. The second season of the series was originally delayed by the writer’s strike, and showrunners were even switched.

The series cast also stars Sian Clifford (Doctor Who, Fleabag) as Anna, Aaron Branch (Love on Speed, Kenan) as Malcolm, Rachel Marsh (Just Beyond, The Vision) as Luna, Emma Ferreira (Neon, Learn to Swim) as Ruby, Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Fred) as Leslie, Lamorne (New Girl, Fargo) Morris as Peter, Iris Apatow (Funny People, This Is 40) as Georgia and many others.

The series was created by the Lowes and Victor Fresco (Better Off Ted, Santa Clarita Diet). Fresco also served as a showrunner for Unstable. Andrew Gurland (The Last Exorcism, Mail Order Wife) took over as showrunner for season two, executive producing with Rob and John Owen Lowe and Sean Clements (Kevin Can F**k Himself, United We Fall).

Unstable joins other series that were canceled by the streamer in the last few weeks. These shows include That ’90s Show and Kaos, with many more series possibly joining them.

The series is still available to stream on Netflix.
