Netflix Cancels ‘Daybreak’ After First Season

Daybreak is being canceled after its first season, Comicbook.com has announced. The short lived Netflix series was an adaptation of the graphic novel that went by the same name created by Brian Ralph. The series focused on a group of high school students as they attempted to adapt and persevere through an apocalyptic world.

The TV series starred Colin Ford as Josh Wheeler, a Canadian survivor of the apocalypse who attempts to find his missing girlfriend, Sam Dean, played by Sophie Simnett. The series was a humorous take on both the Young Adult and apocalypse genre, with one interesting element about the show being Josh feeling as though the apocalypse may have been a good thing. Daybreak also featured cheerleaders as Amazons, jocks and zombies called Ghoulies that all added to the uniqueness of Josh Wheeler’s crazy world. Series creator Aron Eli Coleite made sure to give Daybreak and its fans long, parting words when announcing the series’ cancellation.

“We learned last week that Daybreak will not be returning for a second season. We’re so sorry we couldn’t share it with you sooner but also grateful that we got to hang out in these last few live tweet sessions with you. Thank you for picking up what we put down, for running with it in all of your amazing, weird, monstrous ways and for being such an important part of this show and our experience making it.” Coleite later went on to say, “No one is as heartbroken as we are that we can’t share more of this ride with you. But we’re so grateful to have gotten to bring it this far. Thank you for riding with us, for your voices, your enthusiasm, your memes, your fart jokes, and your unashamed crazy. We’ll see you out there.”

Although Daybreak has been canceled, fans can continue to enjoy the season in its entirety on Netflix, where the memory of the show will live on in perpetuity.
