The cast and crew of Netflix‘s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will have something to toast to this New Year’s — the über popular pitch-black drama, has been renewed for Seasons 3 and 4, per TVLine.
Part 1 of Sabrina’s season one is currently available to stream on Netflix and a nine-episode order for Part 2, will debut on Friday April 5th, 2019. The streaming giant has additionally ordered 16 more episodes of the show, which will be released in two parts (officially called Parts 3 and 4). Production on the new installments will begin in the latter half of 2019.
This is a fast-tracked decision for the streaming giant, considering they just settled a high-profile lawsuit with The Satanic Temple recently. The religious organization filed a $50 million copyright lawsuit that accused the streaming platform of copying the temple’s statue of Baphomet in the series.
In an announcement, both parties reached a mutual agreement that requires Netflix to “acknowledge copied elements of the Baphomet statue in the credits” of previously filmed episodes and future ones. Other terms of the settlement are protected by an additional non-disclosure agreement.
Chilling Adventure of Sabrina is based on the comic books by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack, which reimagined the original lighthearted quirky 90’s series, with super bleak and dark undertones.
While encouraging it’s signature dark tone, the series had a somewhat more optimistic feel during their holiday special, which aired this past Friday. The special picked up shortly after the events of Season 1, as the Spellmans celebrated their first Winter Solstice with a new baby under the roof (Father Blackwood’s unwanted daughter).
“Praise Satan! I’m so grateful to my partners at Warner Brothers, Netflix, Berlanti Television and Archie Productions for supporting this darker vision of the world’s most famous teen witch,” series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said. “And I’m thrilled to be continuing to tell Sabrina’s chilling adventures with our incredible cast and crew, led by the unstoppable Kiernan Shipka.”
