The popular high school romance is back. According to Deadline, Netflix recently announced the premiere date for the long-awaited second season of Heartstopper. Besides the date, Netflix also released a behind-the-scenes teaser of the second season. The show’s new season is set to premiere on August 3. Watch the teaser below.
According to Deadline, the show’s first season was a massive success for the streaming service which then renewed the show for two more seasons. The series is produced in the UK which is why news of the show came out a few days before the Netflix UK showcase.
The cast of the show includes Kit Connor (His Dark Materials, Little Joe) as Nick Nelson; Joe Locke (Agatha: Coven of Chaos) as Charlie Spring; Yasmin Finney (Doctor Who) as Elle Argent; William Gao (Sunrise) as Tao Xu; newcomer Cormac Hyde-Corrin as Harry Greene; newcomer Tobie Donovan as Isaac Henderson; Rhea Norwood (Consent) as Imogen Heaney; Sebastian Croft (Damoyr, Doom Patrol) as Ben Hope; Olivia Colman (The Favourite, Broadchurch) as Sarah Nelson and Corinna Brown (Doctors, The Show Must Go Online) as Tara Jones.
Heartstopper is a coming-of-age romantic comedy based on graphic novels of the same name by Alice Oseman (Solitaire, This Winter). The show follows Charlie and Nick, two students who meet at secondary school and establish an unlikely friendship that they later discover might become an unexpected romance.
When discussing the second season, Connor mentioned that the new season has a “different vibe to season one.” On the other hand, Locke has revealed more about what his character might go through in the second season. He has said that Charlie “goes on more of a journey this season.”
Oseman, also the creator of the show, will return for the new season and executive produce. See-Saw Films is set to produce the show. Alongside Oseman, Patrick Walters (The Essex Serpent, The End), and Euros Lyn (The Library Suicides) will also executive produce.
Season two of Heartstopper will premiere on Netflix on August 3. The first season of the show is available to stream on Netflix.
