The premiere date for the third and final season of Netflix’s Jessica Jones has been announced. Fans of the Marvel show will be able to start watching the last season on Friday, June 14th, with all 13 episodes available globally. This comes after the announcement back in February that both Jessica Jones and The Punisher were cancelled in lieu of Disney’s acquisition of Marvel content. Marvel content will officially be moved to Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney+, in November.
The last season of Jessica Jones will focus on Jessica and her dealings with an unnervingly clever psychopath. According to Netflix’s logline: “When Jessica (Krysten Ritter) crosses paths with a highly intelligent psychopath, she and Trish (Rachael Taylor) must repair their fractured relationship and team up to take him down. But a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.”
Concerning the cancellation of Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter had posted on her Instagram:
“Taken a few weeks back at the table read for our SERIES FINALE. I love these people to the moon and back. It has been a dream to play Jessica alongside my amazing cast and the best crew in the business for these past 5 years,” Ritter wrote. “I am so grateful for every second of it. We have THE BEST fans. You guys mean the world to me and I appreciate you beyond words. The final season of #JessicaJones is coming later this year and I am proud of how we complete JJ’s journey. I can’t wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned and more to come.”
Other cast members include Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Eka Darville (Empire), Rebecca DeMornay (The Hand that Rocks the Cradle), Jessica Frances Dukes (The Good Wife), Tiffany Mack (Hap and Leonard), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix Trilogy), Aneesh Sheth (New Amsterdam), and Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). The series is produced for Netflix by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios. It is created by Melissa Rosenberg, executive producer and showrunner, and Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television.
Regarding whether or not the Jessica Jones series is done for good, Loeb gave some hope. “Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that,” said Loeb. “As Matthew Murdock’s Dad once said, ‘The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it’s how he gets back up.’”
