According to Deadline, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle, Beauty and the Beast) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Rocketman) are tapped to star in the upcoming Netflix drama series Trinity. The show will be helmed by Jed Mercurio (Bodyguard, Line of Duty), who is known for his intricate plots, high tension, and unexpected twists.
Deadline confirms that the series will take place over eight parts and cover the story of Katherine Decker, played by Mbatha-Raw, a heroic female naval officer who is second in command on the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine that is billed as one of the deadliest weapons on earth. She falls for a charismatic Secretary of Defense with something to hide. The plot suggests that he may be involved in a dangerous conspiracy, drawing Katherine into his deadly game and testing her loyalty. The show is set to explore themes of political intrigue, espionage, betrayal, government secrets, and high-stakes suspense.
Per Deadline, Madden is set to play the role of Secretary of Defense, Webb Preston. Preston’s profile is that of a politician who sets himself apart from the pack with his innovation and technological expertise. This puts a target on his back.
Deadline reports that Mbatha-Raw can be seen currently starring in and producing Surface, a psychological thriller currently running on Apple TV+. Madden may be familiar to many viewers who tuned into the Game of Thrones phenomenon, as he played the role of Robb Stark. He can also be found in Netflix’s series Bodyguard and Prime Video’s Citadel. He also has a role in the movie Eternals, set in the Marvel universe, where he plays Ikaris.
