As summer awaits just around the corner, so does the sun-drenched, flip-flop clad series Outer Banks. Netflix announced on Friday that the outdoor adventure series would be returning with a season two sometime this summer, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Writing on Twitter, Netflix announced the series return in addition to sharing the first photos of characters on set in season two. Netflix tweeted, “Outer Banks Season 2 is coming this Summer! In the meantime, get your first look at pogue life in OBX2.”

John B, portrayed by Chase Stokes (The First) and Sarah, portrayed by Madelyn Cline (Stranger Things), are still on the run in the Bahamas. The remainder of the pogues, JJ, Kiara, and Pope, played by Rudy Pankow (Solved), Madison Bailey (Black Lightning), and Jonathan Daviss (Edge of the World), continue to be up to no good in North Carolina while believing John B and Sarah to be dead. The new photos also reveal a funeral, in attendance includes Sarah’s evil father, Ward, played by Charles Esten (Nashville) and his murderous son Rafe, portrayed by Drew Starkey (Scream).
Entertainment Weekly also picked up the official synopsis released for Outer Banks season two: “After their near-death escape, season 2 finds John B and Sarah on the run — and in over their heads — in the Bahamas. New friends also bring new foes as they’re back on the trail of the gold.” Stokes also shared an additional photo of his character John B and Sara seemingly running for their lives posted to his Instagram on Friday, writing the caption, “summer|obx2|p4l.”

Executive producers on the series, Jonas Plate (Shrink), Josh Pate (The Take), and Shannon Burke (Syriana), released a statement teasing the upcoming season picked up by Entertainment Weekly: “Season 2 is going to test our crew like never before…We’ve turned up the dial on everything fans loved about season 1 — more mystery, more romance, and higher stakes. It’s a full-throttle, action-packed adventure and these photos offer a glimpse into the next chapter for our Pogues. All we can say for now is buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride.
