On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, Netflix is set to launch a second new Dave Chappelle stand-up special. The debut of Dave Chappelle: The Bird Revelation will make it the second special of Chappelle’s that will appear on the streaming service on New Year’s Eve day with the first special called Dave Chappelle: Equanimity.
Both of these new specials mark the third and fourth Chappelle comedy specials that premiered at Netflix as part of a wide-ranging deal. Netflix announced in November that it had signed a blockbuster deal with Chappelle to headline three stand-up specials. Chappelle’s original deal consisted of three specials, but has expanded his deal into a surprise fourth addition.
Earlier this year, Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at the Hollywood Palladium and Deep in the Heart of Texas: Dave Chappelle Live at Austin City Limits debuted on Netflix. Those two specials will now be joined by Dave Chappelle: The Bird Revelation, which was filmed Nov. 20 at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, and Dave Chappelle: Equanimity, which was filmed in September at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C.
Along with the stand-up specials on Netflix, Comedy Central has also planned an all-day long New Year’s Day Chappelle’s Show marathon, which will include all 28 episodes that will lead up to his 2000 HBO stand-up special Killin’ Them Softly.
