According to Deadline, Natalie Dormer (Pets United, The Professor and the Madman) was recently cast in a new Netflix series, Extraction. The series is derived from a film originally released in 2020, with a sequel, Extraction 2, released in 2023. Dormer will be playing opposite Omar Sy (French Lover, Out of Control) and Boyd Holbrook (The Morning Show, A Complete Unknown). The series is an action-packed thriller written by Glen Mazzara (Citadel, The Dark Tower), who will also serve as executive producer alongside Joe Russo (Citadel, The Electric State) and Anthony Russo (The Last Neanderthal, The Legend of Ochi). Extraction will be an eight-episode series.
According to Deadline, Dormer portrays the character Clayon Wisper, who is the leader of a private military. The series tells the story of a mercenary played by Sy who is on a mission to rescue hostages in the country of Libya. Sy must navigate in and out of killers’ arms and face life and death situations as the series shows the trauma, betrayal, and moral conflicts of each character.
Deadline mentions that the series is based on the movie franchise, which starred Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Spiderhead) in the lead role. The films were directed by Sam Hargrave (Atomic Blonde, The Last Frontier) and were based on the novel Ciudad, written by Ande Parks (Union Station, Capote in Kansas).
In addition to the Russo Brothers, Deadline lists Angela Russo-Otstot (The Electric State, Just Married-Italian Style), Scott Nemes (Full Clip), Chris Castaldi (Citadel, Damsel), Hargrave, Eric Gitter (The Auteur, The Beauty), and Peter Schwerin (Atomic Blonde, The Flock) as executive producers. AGBO will produce the series as they did the two films.
According to Deadline, the Extraction series will be the second time Netflix has spun a show from one of its film properties. The popular rom-com trilogy, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, resulted in the series, XO, Kitty. It was currently renewed for a third season.
