Netflix and A24 Release Trailer for Dark Comedy ‘BEEF’ Starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong

Netflix has unveiled a new trailer for BEEF, its highly-anticipated dark comedy series in collaboration with A24 starring Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, NOPE) and comedian Ali Wong (Always Be My Maybe, Ali Wong:Baby Cobra). Created by Lee Sung Jin (DaveUndone), BEEF explores mental health issues as two strangers spiral into a cycle of violence after their initial road-rage filled encounter.

In the dark comedy series, Wong’s character Amy is an entrepreneur, wife, and mother who seems to have it all, while Yeun’s character Danny is a struggling contractor with downward fortunes. Both are miserable with their lives though, with Amy slowly feeling succumbed by the pressure of being good at being there for her family and remaining successful, and Danny shutting out the weight of his mental health issues after hustling his whole life. The two are brought together in a simple parking incident that blows up into extreme road rage, then into an ongoing violent feud.

Ali Wong is a stand-up comedian, writer and actress. Her breakout Netflix special Baby Cobra premiered Mother’s Day weekend 2016 to wide critical acclaim. Since then she has released her second Netflix special Hard Knock Wife. She voiced the co-lead and executive produced the Netflix animation show, Tuca and Bertie. Ali also co-wrote and starred in the Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe. Her debut book, Dear Girls, became an instant New York Times bestseller.

BEEF is loosely based on showrunner Lee’s real-life motorist conflict he experienced with a middle-aged white man. He then reimagined the role after meeting with Yeun and getting a call from Wong in which she called about something unrelated but was “describing something that is emotionally painful” and it causing him to “crack up”, via an interview with The Hollywood ReporterBEEF quickly became a hot package in March 2021, with Netflix prevailing in the weeklong bidding war that ensued.

BEEF’ will be available to stream worldwide on Netflix on April 6.
