It was just announced that Netflix is going ahead with the order for the 20th century TV original comedy series that depicts the life of Erin Foster (House, The O.C.). According to Deadline, this would be the first 20th Century TV order for Netflix since the company (known previously as 20th Century Fox) was purchased by Disney. The series is expected to star Kristen Bell (Frozen, Veronica Mars) as well as having her as executive producer.
This planned comedy series is expected to loosely depict the life of Erin Foster and her life experiences. Besides Bell, both Erin and Sara Foster (90210, D.E.B.S.) will also assist. It was also announced that Stevel Levitan (Modern Family, The Larry Sanders Show) would join Bell as executive producer alongside Craig DiGregorio (Ash vs Evil Dead, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World) and Danielle Stokdyk (Veronica Mars, Party Down). Both Foster sisters have a pod deal with 20th Century Television and Levitan has an overall deal. via Deadline.
The potential series was in the talking and negotiating stage for months. The working premise revolves around an unconventional relationship between a woman and a rabbi who took totally different paths than usual. And speaking of which, Bob Iger is now back as CEO of the Walt Disney Company and has taken steps to look for other avenues and collaborations for showcasing their properties.
20 Century Television became the first major TV studio to get an original series on Netflix. via. Deadline. That show was the revival of Arrested Development which was released in 2013. More recent 20th Century TV on Netflix include Ryan Murphy’s 2020 series, The Politician, Ratched, and the animated comedy, Hoops. To those paying attention to the announcement, it’s an interesting reference to recall. Considering how 20th Century Television previously set the milestone for original shows on streaming service, many people are interested in what would come for Disney and Netflix.
According to Deadline, 20th Television will produce this comedy series in association with studio-based Steven Levitan Prods. Bell is represented by CAA, James Adams at Schreck Rose Dapello and True Public Relations. As of now, there is no word with how creative this series would be when turning these stories into comedic humor.
