Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, Netflix is trying to resume production of its UK Shows including drama Sex Education in August according to Deadline. British production company responsible for Sex Education, Eleven, explains that August is the hopeful time season 3 can begin production.
August is the latest date that Sex Education can go into production due to the need for longer days of the British Summer in which the sunshine is essential for on-screen gloss. Netflix and Eleven must make a decision by next month as the show needs 10 weeks of time to prep.
The series starring Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game) and Gillian Anderson (X-Files), Sex Education tells the story of socially awkward Otis Milburn, played by Butterfield, finding himself through the discomforts of adolescence.
With over 1,200 people having died in the nation amidst the pandemic, Wales, which serves at the background of Moordale High, stays in lock down. Director Laurie Nunn (Gone to Earth) risks having to rewrite scripts as intimacy is a large factor of the show which disrupts the UK government’s two-meter social distancing rules.
Netflix’s plan comes after other British shows have began to continue production as the government approves filming again. BBC soap opera, East Enders, is one of them while larger dramas such as Doctor Who and Peaky Blinders are shooting in Autumn.
Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, explains measures needed post-pandemic,”rejiggering productions, locations and set schedules to postpone shooting crowd or action scenes and intimate moments, as well as scenes that require international travel,” Sarandos continues, “Some shows will need to rewrite scripts or look to add visual effects to what previously would have been shot live.” via Deadline. The British Film Commission guidelines included measures in a draft to encourage temperature testing, quarantining foreign actors for two weeks, and issuing an authorized COVID-19 supervisor to oversee safety on-set
Past seasons of Sex Education are available for streaming on Netflix.
