

The high-tech, low-life aesthetic of cyberpunk is undergoing a massive resurgence, and will most likely take the digital crown of 2026. According to Screenrant, Prime Video recently announced that it will be the home of the upcoming Ghost in the Shell reboot series, which will be produced by Science Saru, known for the works on DandaDan and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. This means that the reboot will have an all new art style combined with a bright color palette. Additionally, audience can expect fluid, animated characters, which the studio is renowned for, while also exploring the theme of where the line between being human and machine begins to blur.
Reported by Screenrant, the plot of the reboot will remain the same in which follows the journey of cyborg federal agent, Motoko Kusanagi, who must capture the allosive “Puppet Master”, who has the ability to hack in to digital minds of cyborg-human hybrids. The new style that will be utilizing will help boost the high octane action sequences that franchise is well known for and surely be used in the upcoming reboot.
While the Ghost in the Shell has experience various iterations, from when it began in 1995 all the way to the live action film starring Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: End Game, Jurassic World Rebirth), this latest one will surely be a pivotal. Screenrant states, this newest addition to the franchise has the potential on raising the show’s popularity and attracting new viewers.
This reboot will surely be a nostalgic journey, as older fans of the series will witness their favorite series reimagined and stylized. At the time, there is no concrete release date, but the Ghost in the Shell reboot is scheduled for July 2026. If the reboot is able to make a grand debut, it will join the other animated series of the platform which includes Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell’s paradise.
