Neil Patrick Harris has been tapped to host the 65th annual Prime-time Emmy Awards Ceremony, Deadline reports. The telecast will air on CBS, home of Harris’s How I Met Your Mother, on September 22.
This year’s telecast will mark Harris’ second stint as an Emmy host, having presided over the 2009 ceremony. He will also be hosting this year’s Tony Awards, which airs on CBS next Sunday, June 9. “What perfect timing,” Harris quipped in a statement, “I’ll just use the exact same script I’m about to use for the Tonys. ‘And the Emmy for Best Revival of a Musical goes to Breaking Bad!’ See, told you it works.”
Harris has been praised as a skilled host in past years: a triple threat–he excels at acting, singing and dancing. This year’s ceremony will undoubtedly mark another display of his array of talents.
Some strong contenders for this year’s statues are expected to include HBO’s Behind the Candelabra and critically acclaimed series Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Nominations will be announced July 18.
