According to ComicbookTV, Neil Druckmann (Uncharted) has announced that filming has wrapped on the episode of The Last of Us’ second season he directed. Filming for the series’ second season appears to be nearing its end.
Druckman announced the wrap on Instagram with an image of a watch gifted to him, presumably the one Pedo Pascal’s (Narcos, The Mandalorian) Joel wears.
“My time in Vancouver has come to an end,” Druckmann wrote on Instagram. “I’ve had a wonderful time collaborating with some incredibly talented and kind cast and crew. Can’t wait for y’all to see what we’re cooking! And thanks to production for the best parting gift ever. Easily my favorite watch in my collection!”
Joel’s watch is an important item to him in The Last of Us, being a gift given to him by his daughter Sarah shortly before her death at the hands of military police.
The first season of The Last of Us follows Joel, played by Pascal, as he travels with Ellie, played by Bella Ramsay (Game Of Thrones, Time), to develop a cure for the fungal cordyceps infection. The series is based on the video game series of the same name. Further, the series’ second season is set to follow the story of The Last of Us Part II.
The series received critical acclaim. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Last of Us has a 96 percent critic score and an 88 percent audience score. Streams for the series on HBO were the second highest for the service since 2010. The series also received eight Primetime Emmy awards.
No official release date for The Last of Us’ second season has been set. However, Druckmann released this teaser, which could indicate that filming appears nearly complete. This could hint at the possibility of fans hearing more about the series’ second season in the coming months.
