According to Variety, NCIS: Hawai’i, a spinoff within the NCIS universe, has been canceled. Currently in its third season, the series set its season finale for May 6, which will now be the series finale.
NCIS: Hawai’i was the fourth installment in the universe and is now the third show to be canceled within the franchise. As previously reported, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans closed their doors after 14 and seven seasons, respectively.
That said, Variety notes that, otherwise, the franchise is still going strong, with the original NCIS just renewed earlier this month. Additionally, two new series are coming to the franchise.
In one of our recent reports, it was announced that a Paramount+ spinoff starring Michael Weatherly (Dark Angel) and Cote de Pablo (The 33) is on the horizon. Also, CBS prequel following a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs is underway.
Variety also notes that CBS and Paramount+ both air NCIS: Sydney, which was just renewed for its second season last month.
NCIS: Hawai’i was the last scripted series for the network to decide its fate on. CBS has previously greenlit many of its other scripted shows, although two titles on the network, So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas, are also on the chopping block.
In another one of our reports, it was revealed that Blue Bloods, Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola were canceled last year.
As per Variety, NCIS: Hawai’i follows Jane Tennant, as portrayed by Vanessa Lachey (Love Is Blind), who is depicted as “the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor. She has thrived and risen through the ranks by equal parts confidence and strategy in a system that has pushed back on her every step of the way. Together with her unwavering team of specialists, they balance duty to family and country while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself.”
NCIS: Hawai’i also stars Noah Mills (2 Broke Girls), Jason Antoon (Minority Report), Kian Talan (The Good Doctor), Tori Anderson (No Tomorrow), and Yasmine Al-Bustami (The Originals). Additionally, since the beginning of the third season, LL Cool J (Deep Blue Sea) has been a guest star, reprising his role as Sam Hanna on NCIS: Los Angeles.
The series was created by Christopher Silber (NCIS: New Orleans), Matt Bosack (SEAL Team) and Jan Nash (Without a Trace), who also are executive producers alongside Larry Teng (Medium). CBS produced NCIS: Hawai’i.
