According to Deadline, Peruvian-Mexican voice actress Nancy MacKenzie (Cuna Vacía, Magdalena) recently passed away at the age of 81. Mackenzie was renowned for dubbing Marge Simpson into Spanish for Latin American viewers on The Simpsons. The actress lent her voice to the iconic animated character for the first 15 seasons in Latin America. MacKenzie’s former co-stars announced her passing on social media.
Patricia Acevedo (Locke & Key, Poison for the Fairies), who dubbed Lisa Simpson for Latin America, posted three days ago on Instagram: “It is with deep sadness, that we the Simpson kids, Lisa and Bart, announce the passing of our beloved mom, Marge Simpson (Nancy MacKenzie). Rest in peace. You will never be forgotten.”
Homer Simpson’s Spanish voice actor, Humberto Vélez (Firma Aquí, Uma & Haggen: Princesa Y Vikingo), paid his respects on Instagram as well. He wrote, “Many hours together, working, traveling. A lifetime. Your departure hurts me very much, but I celebrate your way of joy, of being free, of living life to the fullest. Thank you for always listening to me, for your unconditional support in the union issue that we went through together. Thank you for the laughter, the debates, the shared, intimate moments. Thank you for journeying with me through this part of life. You were, are, and always will be a huge part of my career’s most important project. You are many things. You are my wife, Marge. Thank you, Nancy MacKenzie.”
The Spanish dubbing studio for The Simpsons, New Art Group, honored MacKenzie on Facebook, posting “Your voice is and always will be a part of your legacy.”
MacKenzie also voiced Cruella de Vil, Daphne in The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and Sailor Galaxia in Sailor Moon Cosmos. Additionally, she dubbed numerous well-known actresses such as Bette Midler (The First Wives Club, Hocus Pocus), Diane Keaton (Annie Hall, Reds), Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Avatar) and Judi Dench (Skyfall, Notes on a Scandal).
