Following their live-feature event earlier this year, the masterful players that make up Critical Role embark on another innovative adventure with production studio Third Person. According to an official press release, Critical Role founders Marisha Ray (The Legend of Vox Machina, Exandria Unlimited) and Liam O’Brien (The Phoenix Incident, Planet Hulk) will guide new miniseries entitled Moonward: A Midst Roleplaying Story. The new standalone story will explore mythos within the Midst podcast universe. Joining Ray and O’Brien are Third Person’s Sara Wile and Matt Roen, co-creators of Midst. The four-part miniseries is geared to welcome both a new audience and fans of the established podcast.
“Midst itself was born from Third Person’s shared love of tabletop gaming,” stated Third Person’s Xen, this story’s narrator. “We’re thrilled, over the moon, you might even say, to return to our gaming origins with Moonward and tell a new Midst story in one of our most favorite formats.”
Following in Midst’s footsteps, Moonward offers listeners an experimental storytelling experience, featuring a variety of tools including live audio, music, and special lighting unique to Third Person’s signature audio dramas.
“Midst has always been about play and experimentation,” said Wile via the official press release. “We’re honored to have this opportunity to adapt our storytelling style into a new medium with Critical Role, and we hope people will find it as fun to watch as we did to create!”
Moonward is set to premiere on Wednesday, August 7 at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET across Critical Role’s platforms. Viewers can watch via their Twitch and YouTube channels, and listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. It will also premiere on Midst’s YouTube channel. New episodes will be released weekly. Midst.co and Beacon subscribers will gain access to the first two episodes on August 7, and receive the other episodes two weeks in advance.
Critical Role recently held a live event for their horror series, Candela Obscura, which launched its third season last year.
