Fox’s Murder in a Small Town is welcoming a new actor among its cast. According to an exclusive TVLine preview of the second season (below), award-winning Marcia Gay Harden (So Help Me Todd, How to Get Away with Murder) will play Mayor Christie Holman.
According to the character description via TVLine, Mayor Holman is “a practicing doctor and beloved figure in the community, and a consummate political operator.” Although Mayor Holman and Gibsons’ chief of police Karl Alberg, played by Rossif Sutherland (Crossing Lines, Poor Boy’s Game), seem to work together in the preview, the mayor “sometimes lets her personal interests take precedence,” which will “complicate life” considerably for Alberg.
Murder in a Small Town, which was renewed for a second season in January according to mxdwn, is based on the Alberg and Cassandra mystery novels written by L.R. Wright. The show in particular is set on the coast of the Pacific Northwest in the town of Gibsons. The first season saw police chief Alberg retreat to Gibsons to escape working in the big city, only to find that the idyllic small town is not what it seems.
According to the official synopsis of the second season via TVLine, “Karl’s jurisdiction expands, and he will have to contend with an increased caseload and limited resources.” His cases will include “a body found at a local wedding between members of two feuding families; a double kidnapping that may mask an even bigger crime; and a pop star who retreated to Gibsons for a quiet vacation only to be followed by a dangerous stalker.”
TVLine writes that joining Harden in the second season will be Bethany Brown (The Good Doctor, The 100), Marci T. House (Happy Face, Devil in Ohio), and Joshua Close (Fargo, The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair).
The second season of Murder in a Small Town will premiere Tuesday, September 23.
