The highly anticipated prequel series, It: Welcome To Derry received major update ahead of its determined scheduled date. According to Screenrant, the series takes place in 1960 and predate the events of the two movies within the franchise We will see the return of Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu) portraying the infamous dancing clown, Pennywise, as fan will see the origins behind how the character was created.
According to Screenrant, the series will showcase new characters to the franchise which will include Jovan Adepo (Overlord), Taylour Paige (Brother), James Remar (Megalopolis) and Kimberly Guerrero (Dogman), whose roles are undisclosed at the moment.
According to Screenrant, series director, Andy Muschietti (The Flash) stated in an interview with Radio TU ,” It’s a story that’s based on the interludes of the book. The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon’s research. They’re fragments of his research. For 27 years, it’s the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff.”
He cotinues his statement,”So they talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot…. the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the ’30s… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks. Every time [Pennywise] comes out of hibernation, there is a catastrophic event that happens at the beginning of that cycle.”
There’s a reason why the story is told backwards. So the first season is 1962, the second season is 1935, and the third season is 1908.
By interweaving different timelines and characters, It: Welcome to Derry promised to be a chilling and unforgettable journey into the heart of darkness. According to Screenrant, currently there is one season in work with nine episode included which is said to release sometime in 2025. The series will surely include iconic elements within it such as the red balloon that Pennywise always carry with him.
