According to mxdwn, the BBC series Peaky Blinders will be returning in the form of a Netflix movie adaptation, with Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place Part II) reprising his role as the show’s lead, Thomas Shelby. As the film continues its early production phases, Deadline reveals that more actors and actresses have been revealed to star in the cast.
Joining Murphy in the revival is Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, Eternals), Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman, Silo), Tim Roth (Last King of the Cross, Tin Star) and Stephen Graham (Code 404, Bodies). Each actor and actress’s specific roles in the Peaky Blinders universe have yet to be confirmed.
Actress Sophie Rundle (Gentleman Jack, Bodyguard) is also joining the cast, reprising her role as Ada from the original series via Deadline. Series spoiler ahead: Rundle’s character Ada was sister to Tommy Shelby, and by the end of the series, inherited the family business from Tommy, per Deadline.
Additionally, Deadline reports that Packy Lee (Clean Break, The Shore), who played the character Johnny Dogs, Ian Peck (The Wolfman, Coronation Street), who played Curly and Ned Dennehy (Good Omens, Mandy), who played Charlie Strong, have all signed on to be featured in the film. Joining the cast is also Jay Lycurgo (Cheaters, Titans), who is new to the Peaky Blinders universe.
While specific details of what the movie will entail are still under wraps, fans suspect its events will continue after those of season six. According to mxdwn, the original Peaky Blinders series “followed Tommy Shelby, a ruthless crime boss striving to expand his family’s empire, no matter the cost,” with 1919 Birmingham, England, as its set time period. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight (Rogue Heroes, See), who will return creatively on the new film, said he always envisioned finishing the Peaky Blinders story with a movie, per mxdwn.
Along with Knight, Peaky Blinders series director Tom Harper (Misfits, War & Peace) will also return to direct the movie via mxdwn.
