Ryan Murphy’s (The Politician, Hollywood) next project from his overall deal with Netflix has finally arrived. Deadline reports the trailer for Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story was released this morning. The true crime series produced by Murphy and long-time collaborator, Ian Brennan (Cooties, Scream Queens), tackles the prolific serial killer’s crimes from a new perspective. View the trailer below.
According to Deadline, Monster stars Emmy-winning actor and frequent Murphy collaborator, Evan Peters (American Horror Story, Mare of Easttown), in the haunting role of Dahmer. Instead of making Dahmer the protagonist of this story, the series will detail his horrible crimes from the eyes of his many victims and those who sought to bring him to justice. This includes Niecy Nash’s (The Rookie Feds, Claws) Grace Cleveland, Dahmer’s neighbor who, despite many failed attempts, alerted law enforcement to Dahmer’s disturbing behavior.
Deadline provided a logline for the series below:
Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer gruesomely took the lives of seventeen innocent victims. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a series that exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.
The massive cast includes Molly Ringwald (Riverdale, Sixteen Candles), Richard Jenkins (Step Brothers, The Visitor), Michael Beach (Truth Be Told, Aquaman), Karen Malina White (A Different World, The Proud Family), Dyllón Burnside (Pose, All Boys Aren’t Blue), and Michael Learned (The Waltons, A Walton Wedding) to name a few via Deadline. Nick A Fisher (A Genie’s Tail, Dolittle) has been cast as younger Dahmer, which indicates there will be scenes documenting the man’s childhood.
According to Deadline, Murphy and Brennan will executive produce along with Alexis Martin Woodall (A Secret Love, The Prom), Janet Mock (Pose, Scandalous!), Carl Franklin (Devil In A Blue Dress, Out of Time), Eric Kovtun (The Boys in the Band, The Prom), and Peters. Writer David MacMillan (Dexter: New Blood, Sleepy Hollow) will act as supervising producer while Color of Change President Rashad Robinson is attached as a consulting producer.
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story arrives on Netflix Wednesday, September 21.
