MMA Fighter Conor McGregor Has Been Cast for ‘Game of Thrones’

The Mountain may have some new competition in store.

Game of Thrones does not shy away from including the more muscular body type. After a series of cast changes for The Mountain, Gregor Clegane, we are left to wonder who can possibly be his physical match.

An announcement from TVLine may give us the answer. Conor McGregor has been given an unspecified role for the HBO hit. McGregor is a highly acclaimed mixed martial arts fighter with several titles under his belt. As of last year he won the featherweight championship against Jose Aldo in the fastest knockout ever (thirteen seconds).

McGregor’s role in Game of Thrones has not been specified, as is the show’s signature manner. However, it has been released that McGregor will appear in one of the two upcoming Game of Thrones seasons. The president of UFC, Dana White, has also confirmed his participation in the show: “I knew a few months ago they were interested in putting him in the show. I’m glad he did it. It’ll be great.” Although perhaps this announcement is to be taken with a grain of salt, as a rep for the HBO series does not comment on casting rumors.

Game of Thrones has not released their seventh season release date yet, but you can watch McGregor and The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) face off here:
