Actress Mishael Morgan (Beat the World, The Best Years), the first Black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress at the Daytime Emmys in 2022, is gearing up to reprise her role as Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless this week. According to Deadline, Morgan has been a recurring character on the CBS series since 2022. The exact date of her cameo on the show has been kept under wraps due to her appearance involving a twist in the story.
Morgan unveiled the news with a video on Instagram last month with the caption, “Guess who’s popping in for visit!!,” as per Deadline. Her last cameo on the series was in March of last year.
Morgan, also known for her work on Chicago Med, joined the soap opera in 2013 and portrayed the character Hilary, who passed away in a car crash five years later. A year after the crash, Morgan returned and was cast as Amanda, Hilary’s twin.
Deadline also notes that in 2022, Morgan obtained a standing ovation after being awarded her first daytime Emmy. The actress, earlier on, has received two nominations for her work in the series.
“I was born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and I’m now standing on an international stage and I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do. Now there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry, the vocation … they can strive to be the best,” said Morgan via Deadline.
Following her Emmy win, Morgan made the decision to step away from the limelight and wrote to fans in 2023, “A lot of people have noticed that my name is not on the main credits anymore and I wanted everybody to know that it was my decision, I decided, actually back in December, that I wanted to take a bit of a step back from the show. I just feel like at this point in my life and at this point in my career, I wanted to mix things up a little bit, but Y&R will always be home and I have so appreciated this safe place to land that they’ve given me, so I know that I can be back,” via Deadline.
She continued, saying, “They’re like family to me and coming back just reminds me of that. And I’m so appreciative for you guys, and all the fans who have supported me along this Y&R journey, but I’m still on it, I’m still gonna be on recurring so you’ll still catch me in Genoa City.”
Just recently, Morgan took on the executive producer reigns and starred in the indie film Sway, which tells the story of a Black community leader who finds himself being blackmailed by an odd woman following his brother’s disappearance. Deadline reports that it has already won Best Picture at the 2024 Canadian Black Screen Awards, with Morgan winning the Award of Excellence in Acting.
