As the revival of Gilmore Girls begins to wrap up production at Netflix, Milo Ventimiglia, who played Jess Mariano in seasons two, three, four and six of the famed WB/CW series, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the revival.
“I think people should be excited for classic Gilmore,” Ventimiglia said. “There was something about that show that was so spot on in pop culture and historical reference, and just really good, heart felt, belly laughter cry.”
He goes on to talk about how fans always wondered if Luke and Lorelai were going to end up together and if Rory would end choosing Dean, Jess or Logan as her boyfriend and/or husband in the future.
Ventimiglia said people are going to enjoy seeing the beloved show return again and will get to see “those characters that they loved” in the show when it gets released on Netflix later this year.
Ventimiglia starred on the show as Jess Mariano, the bad boy nephew of everyone’s favorite coffee supplier and diner owner Luke Danes, for two full seasons of the show and guest starred in episodes in the show’s fourth and sixth seasons of the show. He quickly became a fan favorite character and was involved in a love triangle (he was in love with Rory but she was with Dean) in the second season of the show and in the third season of the show, he started dating Rory when Dean broke up with her in the middle of the town’s 24-hour dance marathon.
Ventimiglia left the show at the end of the third season when creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was working on a spinoff that would have involved Jess living in California with his father, though The WB never picked up the series. He’s since popped up in the show here and there, returning in the fourth season for his mom’s wedding to her husband, TJ.
He also returned in the sixth season to surprise Rory by telling her he published a book and tries to talk her into going back to Yale. He also appeared in a later episode in the sixth season when Rory goes to Philadelphia, where Jess was living, as his publishing house was having an open house and copies of his book were going to be there.
Since being on Gilmore Girls, he starred in four seasons of NBC’s Heroes, where he played Peter Petrelli.
Ventimiglia is expected to be in three of the four movies that will be released on Netflix later this year. The exact release date hasn’t been released yet, but the show is expected to wrap production sometime next week.
