Singer songwriter Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), played Ashley O on the fifth season of Black Mirror. Cyrus revealed that back in 2018, the Woolsey Fire burned down her Malibu home, which she shared with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), at the same time she was filming scene for Black Mirror that was additionally traumatic for her. These instances happening simultaneously caused the actress and singer to experience panic attacks years after the occurrences. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Cyrus stated, “I was filming Black Mirror and while I was there the Woolsey Fires happened in Malibu. I was in South Africa but [the episode] was taking place in Malibu, so it was just a real trip. Two or three years after this happened, I didn’t understand, but I had this anxiety attack with a vision attached that I would be strapped down to a gurney.”
Cyrus has been posting videos to her TikTok daily since the twenty-first of August where she talks about different parts of her life that had an impact on her, from her Disney channel show Hannah Montana to past relationships, family, and friendships. The caption of each post is ‘Used To Be Young (Series)’ after her new single with the same title. In part 36 of her ‘Used To Be Young (Series)’, Cyrus talks about the overlapping devastating circumstances that starts with clip of her as Ashley O in a hospital bed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cyrus stated, “I would have these dreams any time I would go to perform, and I thought that was just an anxious version that made no sense… But actually as my house was burning I was strapped to a gurney with my hands locked in handcuffs strapped to a bed [filming Black Mirror].” She goes on to show a clip from the music video she filmed for Black Mirror that she had to shoot a day after learning about her house burning down. Ashley O’s song from the show, “On a Roll”, has received more than 19 million views on YouTube.
Cyrus last posted a video to her TikTok one day ago with part 42 of her series which brings her to her new single. With over 18 million followers on the video social media service, the average number of views on her ‘Used To Be Young (Series)’ is 2.2 million views.
