Mila Kunis Refused to Let Ashton Kutcher Turn Down ‘That 90s Show’

Netflix recently released That 70s Show spin-off That 90s Show, and actor Ashton Kutcher (Killers, No Strings Attached) did not have a choice when reviving his role, via Variety. According to Esquire, Kutcher’s former co-star and current wife Mila Kunis (Black Swan, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) refused to let him pass on the series’ sequel. Kutcher tells Esquire, “[She] goes, ‘You know, we owe our entire careers to this show. It doesn’t matter what the script is, we’re doing it.” In the original series, Kutcher plays Kelso and Kunis plays Jackie.

That 70s Show follows Eric Forman, played by Topher Grace (In Good Company, Traffic), and his group of teenage friends, their mishaps, and their coming of age, set in 1970s Wisconsin. That 90s Show continues the story in 1995, following Eric’s daughter Leia Forman, played by Callie Haverda (The Lost Husband, Shut Eye), as she visits her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place, WI, kids under the watchful eye of Kitty Forman, played by Debra Jo Rupp (Big, She’s Out of My League) and the stern glare of Red, played by Kurtwood Smith (RoboCop, Broken Arrow).

Just like in real life, Kutcher’s Kelso and Kunis’ Jackie are married in That 90s Show, which Kunis disagrees with. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Kunis shares that “My husband and I are together in [the new show], which is weird because we shouldn’t have been. You know what, I called B.S. I was like, ‘My character would be with Fez.’ I think that I ended up with Wilmer [Valderrama]’s character. And I was like [to Ashton], ‘Why are you and I together?’ And also, he was married when “’70s” ended to Shannon Elizabeth’s character, I think.’”

In addition to Kutcher, Kunis, Rupp, and Smith, returning to That 90s Show from the original cast include Topher Grace, Laura Prepon (Orange Is the New Black, The Hero), and Wilmer Valderrama (Larry Crowne, Party Monster). Alongside Haverda, newcomers to the That 90s Show cast includes Ashley Aufderheide (Going in Style, The Slap), Mace Coronel (Pocket, Wireless), Reyn Doi (Kidding, S.W.A.T.), Sam Morelos (Forgetting Nobody, Extraordinary Night), and Maxwell Acee Donovan (Good Kids, War Dogs).

That 90s Show is now available to stream on Netflix. That 70s Show is available to stream on Peacock.
