Mike White Says a ‘The White Lotus’ Prequel Spinoff Starring Jennifer Coolidge is Possible

According to DeadlineThe White Lotus creator Mike White (Enlightened, Freaks and Geeks) says that a prequel series for Jennifer Coolidge’s (2 Broke Girls, The Watcher) Tanya McQuoid from the series is possible.

When discussing a prequel spinoff for Tanya at a film festival in Sydney, Australia, White says, “I absolutely think that’s possible, we were just talking about that. It’s a funny idea. And making Jennifer, you know, 20 years younger, that would be fun too. I think Jennifer’s like, ‘Sure, let’s do it!’,” according to Deadline.

The White Lotus premiered on HBO on July 11, 2021. Along with Coolidge, season one starred Murray Bartlett (The Last of Us, Looking), Connie Britton (American Horror Story, Dirty John), Alexandra Daddario (True Detective, Mayfair Witches), Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The Handmaid’s Tale), and Molly Shannon (The Other Two, Saturday Night Live).

Season two aired on HBO on October 30, 2022 and added Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation, Legion), Theo James (Sanditon, Divergent), Adam DiMarco (The Order, The Magicians), Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type, One Life to Live), and Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos, Lucifer).

The White Lotus was initially meant to be an anthology series, however, Coolidge’s Tanya returned for the second installment.

The series has been renewed for a third season, which will take place in Thailand, according to Variety.

White stated at a press conference on Saturday morning that he wants to potentially film a season of the series in Australia, according to Deadline. “My dream would be to hit every continent, so yeah, this is like its own continent, basically,” White said. “We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going.

“It would be so fun. Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

Mike White created, directs and writes the series. He executive produces along with Will Sharpe (Flowers, Defending the Guilty), and David Bernard (The Mule, Uncharted).
