“America’s Dumb Best Friends” is returning to television as Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head is renewed for a third season, as announced by Comedy Central. The adult animated series is being renewed by MTV Entertainment Studios, with the in-progress production of the newest season set to release in 2025.

According to Deadline, the renewal for a third season is only half of Comedy Central’s updates for Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head. The show will also be premiering on broadcast television, with season two releasing on Comedy Central on Wednesday, July 10th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Seasons two and one have been available to stream on Paramount +, as well the show’s movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe. The movie is also set to premiere on television, premiering Wednesday, July 3rd at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The animated show is experiencing a revival since its original premiere in the 90’s. Mike Judge (King of the Hill, Silicon Valley) launched his characters Beavis and Butt-Head in his animated short film Frog Baseball, which debuted on MTV’s animated showcase series Liquid Television, shares Deadline. Deadline continues to say that after the short transitioned into a greenlit series, Beavis and Butt-Head lasted seven seasons, from 1993 to 1997. Popularity surrounding the show also pushed for a movie to be produced in 1996, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America

Comedy Central’s official press release recognizes Judge as a trailblazer, saying, “Judge has cemented Beavis and Butt-Head as cornerstones in adult animation. Known for its sharp wit and unfiltered take on adolescence, the show remains a significant part of the cultural zeitgeist.” The press release continues that by “[receiving] widespread critical acclaim for its satirical, scathing commentary on society” in its original run in the 90’s, the revival series harkens back to a timelessness captured by satirizing pop culture.

Judge is an executive producer for Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, alongside Michael Rotenberg (Beverly Hills Ninja, Office Space), Shannon Prynoski (Niko and the Sword of Light, The Venture Bros.), Chris Prynoski (Motorcity, Downtown), Lew Morton (Futurama, Veep), Antonio Canobbio (Kiff, Royal Crackers) and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth, The Midnight Gospel) in association with Titmouse animation studio, via Deadline.
