Mike Frank’s Backstory To Be Explored With ‘NCIS: Origins’ Second Half

The popular prequel series, NCIS Origins, has captivated the fans with its refreshing storytelling and stellar cast. The first half of the series delves into the backstory and journey of young Leroy Jethros Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell (Fantasy Island), and the relationship he creates with his friend, Mike Franks, played by Kyle Schmid (Blood Ties). According to Screenrant, the series showrunner, David J. North (Scorpion), previews that Mike’s backstory will cover the second half of the second season.

North stated in an interview with Screenrant,”Mike is going to be dealing with a personal issue of his own. Tish asked him to leave it alone when it comes to the guy who assaulted her, but the reality is that not pursuing the person who hurt his person is a difficult thing for Franks to do.” The statement from North comes crystal clear that Mike’s journey is far from over as he seeks to avenge the assault on his girlfriend Tish, played by Tonantzin Carmelo (The Windigo).

Franks’ mindset is unstable and fueled by vengeance, even though Trish tries to persuade him to stop looking for the man. According to Screenrant, the second half will pick up from where the first ended with Gibbs dealing with the guilt of killing Pedro Hernandez, played by George Paez (Buried in Bastow), which creates tension and distrust between him and Lala, played by Mariel Molino (The Watchful Eye). Fans can expect the second season to showcase several easter eggs to further connect it to the original series.

According to Screenrant, Mike is well known throughout the series for his sharp wit and own sense of justice, which made him a fan favorite, and this deeper exploration into his character is sure to resonate with longtime NCIS fans. While waiting on further news, the entire first half is available to stream on Paramount+ with new episodes releasing on January 27.
