According to Comicbook, a major update for the highly anticipated adaptation for the 2018 God of War has been revealed by the series showrunner, Ronald Moore (Outlander, Caprica). The series will undoubtedly follow the same plot as in the game, which follows the journey of Kratos and his son, Atreus as they traverse the lands of Midgard, while also dealing with godly forces along the way. The production information behind the adaptation has been kept under lock and key for over two years, but Moore goes on to state that Amazon has already picked up a two year plan for the series.
Moore gives a statement surrounding the series update in an interview with Comicbook, “Right now I’m working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War. It’s a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of. They’ve asked me to come in and I’m literally in the writers’ room working on that.” This statement shows the level of confidence that Moore and Amazon have in developing a well creative series, but also staying true to the source materials as well. There is a chance that we could be seeing other iconic characters within the franchise as well, such as Mimir and Freya, being adapted in the series.
According to Comicbook, God of War is rumored to be the most expensive adaption series to be produced in an attempt to bring the magic from the games into reality. This could be a wonderful addition into Prime Video’s vast library with other notable video game based series such as Fallout, Twisted Metal and Secret Level.
As development progresses for the God of War series, fans eagerly await further details on casting and release dates. The fact that Amazon is putting so much effort and time to fine tune the series showcases how delicate both the showrunner and team are in perfecting it.
