The upcoming and highly anticipated live action God of War series has just announced the era that it will take place in. According to Screenrant, the series showrunner and executive producer, Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, Battlestar Galactica) confirms that the series will follow the journey of Kratos through the Norse era, which will be based on the 2018 video game version of the same name.
The plot will follow Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of Atreus’s mother, Faye, from the highest peak, while also encountering numerous gods. According to Screenrant, Atreus along this journey will learn more about his father and the tragic past that he tried to leave behind. Other iconic characters that fans can expect to see in the series are Freya, queen of the valkeyries, Mimir, god of wisdom and the dwarf blacksmiths, Brok and Sindri.
Moore in an interview with Screenrant gives a statement about his decision,”It was just when I started watching it, I started looking at the cutscenes together, and there’s so much material there, and I really responded to the characters. I responded to the story of Kratos and his son, and then they set out on this epic journey in this world that was finely detailed and really interesting, and there’s a lot of combat and interesting monsters along the way.”
He further goes into detail about what to expect with Screenrant, “Well, again, we want to honor the game and what they laid out for Atreus’ journey. Here’s a young man who doesn’t know his father very well, that sets out on this mission, and along the way they learn about each other.”
According to Screenrant, this strategic decision comes from the success of the recent game within the series franchise, but the production team will surely include flashbacks or references hinting at Kratos’s brutal origins. Fans can look forward to an extraordinary narrative in the series that captures the essence of what has made the God of War game so deeply cherished.
