Actor Michiel Huisman has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming horror series ‘Haunting of Hill House’, A.V. Club reports. The series will be based on the 1959 Shirley Jackson novel of the same name, which is a famous horror novel that is widely considered to be one of the best ghost stories of the 20th century. The Netflix series will be comprised of 10 episodes.
Jackson’s novel has been adapted into films twice before in 1963 and 1999, both of which were titled The Haunting. Michiel Huisman will play supernatural author Steven Crane in the series, which follows a group of people living in an old (and perhaps haunted) mansion. Mike Flanagan (director of such horror films as Oculus and Before I wake) will write, direct, and serve as executive producer on the series.
Huisman has starred in series such as Orphan Black and Nashville as well as in films such as The Age of Adaline. However, the Dutch actor is perhaps best known for playing Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones, a role he took up in 2014 when Ed Skrein exited the show to pursue other projects and spend more time with family. Naharis was written out of the HBO series last season when Daenerys Targaryen left him in Meereen to watch over her Eastern territories before she began her journey to Westeros to claim the Iron Throne. With a newly free schedule, Huisman can now devote his time to the highly anticipated Netflix series.
