According to Comicbook.com, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, Hell Or High Water) has welcomed Michael Peña (Ant-Man, End Of Watch) to his upcoming series Landman. Landman is based on the narrative serialized podcast Boomtown, which is based around the little-known 21st-century oil boom in Southwestern Texas. The podcast consists of eleven episodes and was released in 2019. In 2020, the podcast hit number one on iTunes and Spotify, and it garnered praise from outlets like the Atlantic and Outside.
The Paramount series’ tagline reads, “An upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.” The series is co-created by Sheridan and Kayla Wallace (The Magicians, The Good Doctor).
Peña is the newest addition to the Paramount + series’ growing cast of names: Billy Bob Thorton (Sling Blade, Fargo), Michelle Randolph (1923, House Of The Witch), Ali Larter (Final Destination, Legally Blond), Kayla Wallace, Jacob Lofland (Mud, House On The Bayou), James Jordan (Wind River, Yellowstone), Mark Collie (The Punisher, Jericho), Paulina Chavez (Ashley Garcia: Genius In Love, Fate: The Winx Saga), Demi Moore (The Juror, G.I. Jane), John Ham (Mad Men, Top Gun: Maverick), and Andy Garcia (The Untouchables, Ocean’s 11).
Sheridan’s first streaming hit was the series Yellowstone, which follows the Dutton family at their ranch in Montana and their interactions with Yellowstone National Park, Broken Rock Indian Reservation, and land developers. The show’s fifth-season premiere had 12.1 million viewers. The show’s third season holds a 100% on rotten tomatoes, and it is set to premiere its final run of episodes on November 10th.
Sheridan has been building a network of shows on Paramount’s streaming service with Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Mayor Of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and the upcoming 1944 and 2024 series.
