Comicbook writes that Irish actor who had built up quite the resume with supporting roles has passed away at 35. Michael Patrick worked hard as a writer and actor, and did not let a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease in February 2023 slow him down.
“Last night, Mick sadly passed away in the Northern Ireland Hospice,” his wife, Naomi Sheehan, announced on Instagram on April 8, confirming Patrick’s death via Comicbook. “He was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease on 1st February 2023. He was admitted 10 days ago and was cared for by the incredible team there. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.” Patrick’s final social media post, dated February 6, 2026, revealed that his neurologist had estimated he had one year left to live, yet he remained characteristically forward-looking, writing that he still had “lots to live for and lots planned.”
According to Comicbook, Patrick’s father died of the same disease years earlier. Patrick’s most recognizable role is from season six of Game of Thrones where he had a minor role as a wildling. He also gained a part in DC’s Krypton, Blue Lights, and This Town. Patrick also helped write a comedy based on his teen years called, My Left Nut, which was a coming-of-age story, showing how his acting starting and what he went through. His final movie appearance was in a German film called Mordlichtern – Tod auf den Färöer Inseln, which showed his illness getting worse.
According to Comicbook, Patrick began his acting career on the stage, training with the Cambridge Footlights comedy troupe and education at London’s Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. These beginnings saw him co-write Richard III at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre. Here, he used his diagnosis as the basis for the character. The production received praise and was a prime example of how Patrick channeled his disease in his creativity, not hinder it.
