Michael Green Gives Massive Update Regarding ‘Blade Runner 2099’

Michael Green (Blue Eye Samurai, Blade Runner 2049), the executive producer of Blade Runner 2099, came out with good news regarding the production of the Prime video series, Blade Runner 2099.

“We’re filming now. Showrunner Silka Luisa has created an incredible show. I’ve seen dailies. They’re stunning. I’ve read the script. You know, they’ve seen the scripts. I am very excited for how she’s evolved the world and made it bigger. It’s a really impressive, intelligent, emotional story,” Green said, according to The Direct.

According to Comicbook.com, the Prime Video series was under production for years but had to be delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Green’s statement is the first update regarding the production side of Blade Runner 2099.

Blade Runner 2099 is a continuation of Blade Runner and its sequel, Blayde Runner 2049. The main cast will feature Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians), Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II, The Princess) and Daniel Rigby (Sick Note, Teletubbies). There is still no information as to what roles the following actors will be playing.

In addition, a few recurring guest stars will also be featured in Blade Runner 2099. Johnny Harris (Great Expectations, Without Sin), Amy Lennox (Kinky Boots, Holby City), Sheila Atim (Harlots, The Underground Railroad) and Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon, Napoleon).

The Blade Runner franchise is based on Philip K. Dick’s (The Man in the High Castle) novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? While many at the time did enjoy the original novel, Comicbook.com states that the franchise has not done so well with movies, as both Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 underperformed relative to studio expectations.

There has yet to be an official release date or synopsis of Blade Runner 2099. Other than the actors who will be featured in the cast, the only thing fans know about the series is that the plot takes place 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. Both Blade Runner and Blayde Runner 2049 can be found on Amazon’s Prime Video.
