Created by Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, Ready Player One), Beacon 23 debuted on MGM+ on November 12th. The science fiction series Beacon 23 is based on a series of short stories of the same name by Hugh Howey (Wool, Shift). According to Deadline, MGM+ has officially renewed the television series for a second season, which will premiere in April 2024.
As Deadline notes, the Head of MGM+ Michael Wright spoke about the series, stating, “The creative team behind Beacon 23 has masterfully brought Hugh Howey’s best-selling book to life, and we’re excited for fans to continue this journey into Beacon 23’s universe of suspense, emotion, and unforeseen twists.”
Additionally, according to Deadline, one of the executive producers, Glen Mazzara (Damien, The Walking Dead), spoke about the second season. He explained, “Beacon 23’s Season Two ups the game: more action, more mysteries, more twists, and exciting new characters.”
He continued, “It’s a thrill ride. I can’t wait for the audience to see it.”
Produced by Boat Rocker Media and MGM+ Studios, Beacon 23 is set in the future in space. The series revolves around Halan Kai Nelson, played by Stephan James (Race, If Beale Street Could Talk), and Aster Calyx, played by Lena Headey (300, Game of Thrones). Halan works in a place that resembles a lighthouse, and when Aster shows up unexpectedly, they must decide whether or not to trust each other.
Other cast stars include Natasha Mumba (The Last of Us, The Handmaid’s Tale) as Harmony, Eric Lange (Victorious, Brand New Cherry Flavor) as Milan, Daniel Malik (The Expanse, The Witch) as Finch, Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, GLOW), Marnie McPhail (The Edison Twins, Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming) as Kanadey, Carolina Bartczak (Painkiller, Death of a Ladies’ Man) as Dr. Ree Avalon, and many more.
The second season of Beacon 23 will consist of eight episodes in total.
