Meryl Streep will be joining the cast of of HBO’s Big Little Lies. She will be playing Mary Louise Wright. Her character is the mother of Perry Wright (played by Alexander Skarsgard). Streep’s character is described as, a woman who is concerned about her grandchildren after her son Perry’s death. She is also a grieving mother that arrives in Monterey to find answers.
Streep, herself, is a three time Oscar winner (The Iron Lady, Sophie’s Choice, and Kramer vs. Kramer) and Emmy winner (Angels in America) as well. She has also just been given an Oscar nomination for her part in the film The Post. This is her twenty-first Oscar nomination (which actually breaks her own record). Big Little Lies is also an award winning show. It has won eight Emmys and four Golden Globes.
Season two of the show is going to have seven episodes. The show will focus on the parents of Zoe Kravitz’s character (Bonnie Carlson). As of today (January 24th) deals with Streep, Reese Witherspoon (Madeline Martha Machenzie), and Nicole Kidman (Celeste Wright) are confirmed; while, the rest of the deals for the stars of the show are being worked out. David E. Kelley (writer and executive producer for the show) is also confirmed to return, and Kelley has already written the seven scripts for season two.
HBO said season two will explore the, “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode. The potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
All of Big Little Lies season one episodes can be found on HBO. Season two is expected to premiere in 2019 on HBO.
