Megan Mullally and Constance Wu Join Hulu’s ‘Dimension 404’

For many years, anthology series and limited series had fallen out of fashion.  We hadn’t seen series like Roots (the original series) and Lonesome Dove in a long time, but recently, series like True Detective, Fargo and American Horror Story have brought the anthology series back into popularity.

Now, Hulu is jumping into the world of anthologies with an original series, Dimension 404, which is a sci-fi/fantasy anthology series that takes it’s name from the internet error message “Error 404.”  According to Deadline, the series aims to explore the weird side of the web, featuring stories that can’t be explain in the regular world.  The series is produced by RocketJump, the producers behind Video Game High School, and Lionsgate Television.  Already starring in the series are Lea Michele, Robert Buckley, Ryan Lee, Joel McHale, Sarah Hyland, Patton Oswalt, Ashley Rickards and Sterling Beaumon.

Interestingly, a number of the actors already cast in the sci-fi drama are more well-known for their comedic roles, and now, as Variety reports, Dimension 404 has added two more funny ladies, Megan Mullally and Constance Wu.

According to Variety, Mullally will play Director Stevens, a no-nonsense military commander who is in charge of a top-secret project for the NSA.  Mullally is most well-known for her role as drunken, wealthy Karen Walker on hit comedy Will & Grace.  Since then, Mullally has played hilarious roles in Party Down, Breaking In, Parks and Recreation and Children’s Hospital.

As Variety reports, Wu will play Jane, a military psychologist in Dimension 404.  She wants to get home in time for Christmas with her wife and daughter, but the government cancels her plans and assigns her to helping a valuable NSA agent overcome his issues in order to stop a terrorist attack.  Before this, Wu is also most well-known for her comedic roles.  She currently plays the fierce, demanding mother of three on popular family comedy, Fresh Off the Boat.  Before that, Wu played Kathy on Eastsiders and recurred on Spooked.

As Deadline reports, the series will be six hourlong episodes.  It was created by Dez Dolly and Will Campos.  Dolly will serve as showrunner.  Dimension 404 is co-created by Dan Johnson and David Welch. Freddie Wong and Matthew Arnold are also exec producers.
