According to Deadline, in a recent legal setback, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox failed in their latest bid to dismiss a lawsuit against Venu Sporting through Fubo TV, a live TV streaming service. Venus Sports is well known for streaming sports games and events. This resulted in a trial for October 2025, ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Margaret M. Garnett Monday, who had made the decision back on December 13.
According to Deadline, the service had numerous backers, who spent about $50 million for the service to go live. To combat this, the media trio have already sent their objections to the judge within a brief file in September, in which a hearing is scheduled for January. The result of the hearing will not change the course toward the trial date.
The lawsuit drafted by the judge via Deadline states, “As discussed on the record with the parties at the oral argument held on December 13, 2024, Fox’s motion to sever claims and transfer venue is DENIED; Warner Bros. Discovery’s motion to dismiss is DENIED; the Disney Defendants’ motion to dismiss is DENIED; and Fox’s motion to dismiss is DENIED,” it said in the court docket today. “The Court’s opinion and orders on these motions, having been read into the record on December 13, 2024, can be accessed by ordering the transcript for that proceeding once that transcript has been unsealed and made available.”
The statement continues, “The Court’s opinion and orders on these motions, having been read into the record on December 13, 2024, can be accessed by ordering the transcript for that proceeding once that transcript has been unsealed and made available.”
As the trial approaches, industry observers will be closely watching the proceedings, as the outcome could have significant implications for the future of streaming services and the rights of content creators. Whatever the trial result, the impending trial will majorly impact the entertainment and sports industry.
