Max’s original medical procedural, The Pitt, has released a new teaser before its 2025 premiere. The new series starring ER‘s Noah Wyle focuses on a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. View the teaser below.
From creator R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles, JAG), The Pitt focuses on “the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes.” according to the official press release. The series follows Wyle’s Dr. Micahel “Robby” Robinavitch leading his fellow emergency room physicians and a new crop of interns through a day’s worth of emergency care encounters. The episodes will operate like a 15-hour shift in one day at the hospital, akin to Fox’s 24.
Along with Wyle, the show stars Taylor Dearden (Breaking Bad, Sweet Vicious) as Dr. King, Shabana Azeez (The Hunting, The Letdown) as Javadi, Fiona Dourif (Shameless, The Blacklist) as Dr. McKay, Isa Briones (Star Trek: Picard, Goosebumps) as Dr. Santos, Gerran Howell (Lies of P, Suspicion) as Whitaker, Katherine LaNasa (The Campaign, Valentine’s Day) as Dana Evans, Tracey Ifeachor (Twilight of the Gods, Treadstone) as Dr. Collins, Supriay Ganesh (Billions, Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game) as Dr. Mohan, and Patrick Marron Ball (L&O: SVU, Freelance) as Dr. Langdon.
The show, set for a January premiere, was ordered by the streaming service in March and is produced by Sky Studios, John Wells Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. John Wells (Animal Kingdom, The West Wing), Wyle, and Gemmill serve as executive producers along with Erin Jontow (Rescue: Hi-Surf, Maid), Simran Baidwan (Manifest, Ordinary Joe), and Michael Hissrich (Shameless, Third Watch).
The show’s production team was recently met with a lawsuit from the estate of the late ER and Westworld creator, Michael Crichton, alleging the series was a derivative work of Crichton’s former medical show, according to Deadline. In the complaint filed in August by Crichton’s widow, Sherri, the suit alleged Wyle, Wells, Gemmill, and Warner Bros. allegedly stole the concept of The Pitt from failed concept for an ER sequel series, in which her late husband was involved. Warner Bros. answered that complaint with a motion to dismiss in November, citing the original complaint as “meritless.” You can view their complete statement here.
The fifteen-episode series is set to launch on Max in January.
