According to a Max press release, subscribers to HBO’s streaming platform will be able to stream live sports and news on both the standard and premium plans without any additional cost. This does extend to Max’s basic-as tier. Although originally Max had suggested that the live view experience would be an add-on for subscribers, this is no longer the case.
“Over the last year plus, we had the opportunity to assess how users engage with sports and news on Max, and we’ve been actively involved in exploring ways to evolve the sports distribution ecosystem in the U.S. We believe that the best place for that content for now is within the Standard and Premium tiers,” said JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games WBD, in the press release. “This update ensures that subscribers can continue to enjoy that coveted access within Max, while also enabling ongoing investment in our premium sports and news portfolio.”
The basic-ad tier of Max subscriptions will not offer B/R Sports and CNN Max, starting March 30. More information on the subscription breakdown and what it offers is available on Max’s website.
According to Max, B/R Sports will be streaming over 1,700 live games and sporting events a year. The tier was initially launched in fall of 2024. Programming includes NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, NASCAR, Roland-Garros, Big 12, BIG EAST, U.S. Soccer, Premier Cycling, a live series by Bleacher Report and other sports content. Viewers will also be able to stream highlights from throughout the year. According to reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, the announcement was strategically scheduled to align with the start of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament.
CNN Max will also be available on standard and premium subscribers. The news outlet will be offering 24/7 coverage on the platform. Users will also be able to stream CNN’s network content, as well as an expanded programing.
