The comedy series Sort Of, created by Bilal Baig (Acha Bacha, #BasicBAEs) and Fab Filippo (Lives of the Saints, Billable Hours), debuted in Canada on CBC in 2021. The series was renewed for a second and third season, and it was revealed in October 2023 that season three will also be Sort Of‘s final season. According to the official press release for the series, the first two episodes of the third season will premiere on Max on January 18th. After this premiere, two episodes will air each Thursday until February 8th.
In addition, Max has also revealed a trailer for the third and final season, which can be viewed below.
The series revolves around the life of Sabi Mehboob, played by Baig, and the struggles they experience as they navigate their Pakistani-Canadian identity, gender identity, family issues, career options, and more.
As stated in the press release, the official synopsis of the third season reads: “Sabi comes to terms with feelings of grief and an unexpected sense of freedom following the death of their father. Without the constraints of living up to dad’s expectations, Sabi confronts big questions about their identity, prompting some massive life choices. In a season that has the entire ensemble grappling with aftermaths, a rebirth comes in a sort of messy, sort of hopeful, sort of ‘Sort Of’ way.”
Other stars of Sort Of include Amanda Cordner (I Won’t Let You Go, Slo Pitch) as 7even, Gray Powell (The Hardy Boys, ARQ) as Paul Bauer, Grace Lynn Kung (Wong & Winchester, InSecurity) as Bessy Kaneko, Ellora Patnaik (My Own Country, How to Be Indie) as Raffo Mehboob, and many more.
In 2022, the series was nominated for multiple Canadian Screen Awards and won the award for Best Comedy. In that same year, the series also won a Peabody Award.
