Max Cancels Animated Series ‘Velma’ After Two Seasons

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Max has just canceled the animated series Velma after two seasons. The second season, which aired in April, along with the Halloween special that aired earlier this month, marks the series’ end.

Velma is a more adult themed and reimagined take on the popular known Scooby Doo franchise focusing more on Velma Dinkley. The series was created by Charlie Grandy (The Mindy Project) and follows Velma played by Mindy Kaling (The Morning Show) as she is hunted by her mother’s disappearance and dealing with the perils of being a teenager and solving mysteries.

“Over the past two seasons, Mindy and Charlie have created an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic whodunit franchise,” Max said in a statement. “While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we thank them for their compelling coming-of-age storytelling, unrivaled clues, and hilarious hijinks.”

Grandy and Kaling executive produced Velma with Howard Klein (The Office) and Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe president Sam Register (Son of Batman).

All seasons of Velma as well the Halloween special are available to stream on Max.
